Clean the Cartridge and Carriage Contacts

  • Gather the following items before you start to clean the cartridge contacts
  • Use clean, distilled water. Use bottled or filtered water if distilled water is not available.
  • Switch on the printer.Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the right side of the HP printer. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you continue.
  • Switch on the hp officejet 3833 printer. Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the right side of the HP printer. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you continue. Open the cartridge access door.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer. Push down on the top of the cartridge to release it, and then pull it towards you to remove it from its ink slot.
  • Hold the cartridge by its sides. Inspect the ink cartridge contacts for ink and debris buildup.
  • Dip a clean foam rubber swab or lint-free cloth into distilled water, and then squeeze any excess water from it. Clean only the copper-colored contacts

Clean the contacts: Copper-colored contacts, Ink nozzles.

  • Repeat these steps for the other cartridge.
  • Lightly soak the cotton swab with distilled water, and then squeeze any excess water from the swab.
  • Use the swab to clean the electrical contacts in the ink carriage, which is located inside the printer on the carriage slots.
  • The electrical contacts in the cartridge slots, Wait 10 minutes to allow the cartridge and carriage electrical contacts to dry.
  • Slide the cartridge forward into the empty slot, and then push on the upper part of the cartridge until it fixes into its place.
  • Reinstall the cartridges. Close the cartridge access door.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the back of the printer. Press the Power button to turn on the printer.
  • Try to print a page.
  • If you are unable to print your preferred document, repeat these steps to clean and reseat the cartridges.
  • Cleaning might be required to restore printing.

Reset The HP Officejet 3833 Printer

Switch on the printer. With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the rear of the product. Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet. Wait at least for 15 seconds. Connect the power cord back into the wall outlet.

  • Plug the power cord to the rear of the HP printer.
  • If the printer does not turn on by itself, turn it on.

Identify The Problem Cartridge

If cleaning and reseating the ink cartridge does not fix the problem, replace the cartridge with a new, compatible HP cartridge.

  • Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the right side of the HP printer.
  • Push down on the top of the black cartridge located to the right of the tri-color cartridge to release it, and then pull it toward you to remove it from its particular slot.
  • If the Incorrect Print Cartridge or the Print Cartridge Problem error message still displays on your computer, proceed with the next step.
  • Close the cartridge access door.
  • If the Incorrect Print Cartridge or the Print Cartridge Problem error message still displays on your computer, proceed with the next step.
  • Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the right side of the HP printer.
  • Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you continue.
  • Push down on the top of the tri-color cartridge to release it, and then pull it towards you to remove it from its slot.
  • Move the black ink cartridges forward into the empty right slot of your HP printer, and then gently push on the upper part of the ink cartridge until it fixes into place.
  • If the Incorrect Print Cartridge or the Print Cartridge issue occurs, proceed to the Replace the cartridge step and replace the black and the tri-color ink cartridge.
  • If your computer does not display any message, continue with the replace the ink cartridge procedure and replace the tri-color ink cartridge.
Replace The Problem Cartridge
  • Switch on the printer. Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the right side of the HP printer.
  • Push down on the top of the ink cartridge to release it from your HP printer, and then pull it toward you to remove it from its ink slot.
  • Remove the cartridge
  • Remove the new cartridge from its packaging, and then carefully remove the plastic tape using the pink pull tab.
  • Remove the protective tape
  • Do not touch the contacts or ink nozzles
  • Slide the cartridge forward into the empty slot, and then gently push on the upper part of the ink cartridge until it fixes into place.
  • Install the cartridge
  • Close the ink cartridge access door.
  • Follow the instructions on the control panel to start the cartridge alignment.
  • The HP printer aligns the cartridges and prints an alignment page.
